Corona Virus

Sectors that will get disrupted due to Corona Virus would be

  1. Auto - Epicenter of Virus breakout being Wuhan which is considered as Auto capital as all the companies are centered there
  2. Pharma - Virtually all paracetamol , Ibuprofen and many anti-biotics is manufactured here. Even though most of these are in another province which is far off from Wuhan. Saving grace is the fact that indian pharma companies stockup on meds for six months atleast.
  3. Air Conditioners- All AC Compressors are manufactured in China.Even if demand is there when there is no supply , will the price of AC will increase, there by reducing the number of purchase?
  4. Suitcase - Many finished suitcases are imported from China. This has been confirmed by VIP industries themselves. Even if Suitcase manufacturing did start, whether tourism will start in full form given that Corona has spread to Italy, South Korea, Thailand, Singapore and Iran. I wonder how many people will travel for the next six months? Already people are being downsized in Expedia and other travel related companies.
  5. Electronics - All phones are manufactured regardless of whether it is Redmi or iPhone. Similar story with Laptops and other electronic items.
This is an evolving story with more places getting added to caution list as when Corona spreads. But grim future for the next one year for VIP industries.

SC Judgment on Essar Steel

What it is about? Imagine a company that took debt from banks who are secure creditors and from operational creditor. This company at a later date is not able to repay this loan. The company will then proceed to NCLT proceedings. Then a problem arises. To whom should the company pay with the money from its assets. Its Operational creditors or financial creditors. The judgment today addresses this issue. Operational creditors are those that gave their services to this company who could not pay back as no cash is available. Why is it important? If the Supreme Court favor the Operational creditor, then it have an impact on the entire banking system. The Banks which is already stressed will think twice before lending and in this financial environment where demand is low, only liquidity helps is being throttled at its source.  Not just that, Banks will increase loan interest rate if the judgement is in favor of Operational Creditor. This is have major implications in a credit b...

Hindustan Unilever - Triangle pattern

The recent pandemic and the lockdown  that followed has pushed many people to near bankruptcy. With this in mind, the stock that comes to the mind is the essential services and commodities. Consumers will buy those things that are low ticket consumption and used for everyday use. One such evergreen stock is Hindustan Unilever. After making a recent high during peak lockdown, it has come down to 1954-2100 levels for a consolidation. During this time the health drinks (Boost, Horlicks )have been merged with HUL from GSK. You can read all about in it here =>  gsk-horlicks-to-sell-hul-shares-worth-rs-26000-crore The price during this share sale was down to 1900 and then went into consolidation which formed a triangle as shown in the figure. The breakout happens from 1980 levels. The Upward movement continued and this is confirmed by its 5% rise after that.  Which leads me to think there buying at 2040-2060 is a good place to buy with a view that 1960 leve...
